Background:

Newly graduated nurses face significant challenges during their transition into hospital settings.
Reflection is recognized as a key component of professional development for nurses.

Purpose of the Study:

To explore newly graduated nurses' experiences with reflection as a support mechanism during their initial months in hospital practice.
To understand how reflection contributes to professional development in early-career nurses.

Main Methods:

Qualitative descriptive study utilizing four focus groups with 20 newly graduated nurses.
Data were collected in Sweden in 2023 and analyzed using qualitative content analysis.
Adherence to Consolidated Criteria for Reporting Qualitative Research (COREQ) guidelines.

Main Results:

A central theme emerged: Reflection supports newly graduated nurses' professional development.
Key findings include strengthened professional roles through peer reflection, enhanced care task mastery via instructor-led activities, and improved task performance with colleague reflection.
Structured reflection and interactive learning programs fostered deeper engagement with caring experiences.

Conclusions:

Newly graduated nurses emphasized the importance of structured reflection, dedicated space, and trust for professional growth.
While professional development programs offered opportunities, workplace variations created inconsistent conditions for reflective practice.
Implementing structured reflection within onboarding programs is crucial for supporting newly graduated nurses' transition and development.
