Investigation of Unusual Dengue Outbreak in a Rural Area of Maharashtra

The article describes the field experience of an unusual dengue outbreak in the rural area of Maharashtra. Forty-two cases (suspect and probable cases) were identified in dry months. Cases were concentrated in one locality (Gavthan Vasti); despite all, vastis having favorable entomological indices. No travel history was given in any case. No sex and age predilection were observed. All adult mosquitoes were identified as Aedes aegypti. Ovitrap surveillance was established in the village. The migratory population near Gavthan Vasti gave a history of symptoms suggestive of dengue and may have been responsible for completing the epidemiological triad. The migration population should be encouraged to use local healthcare facilities.
