Abstract:
Neuralink has developed a general purpose neural implant capable of recording from and stimulating the cerebral cortex. The implant connects wirelessly to an external computer to transmit neural signals and receive commands to evoke neural activity by electrical stimulation. Its first application is to enable effortless computer use for people with paralysis. I will describe the technological basis of the implant and present data from pre-clinical studies developing its potential to restore visual perception to the blind.
