Abstract:
Surgical training today is far more advanced, methodical, and deliberate than it was just a century ago. The advent of anesthesia and aseptic technique in the late 1800s allowed practitioners to shift their focus from quickly getting the procedure accomplished to that of meticulous surgical technique. In this article, the authors trace the evolution of surgical training over the past 100 years.
