The Quick Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder and Hand Questionnaire and Patient Rated Wrist and Hand Evaluation are two outcome measures used commonly in hand surgery. We evaluated the structural validity of these two outcome measures using item response theory and then developed a common scale that both outcome scores could be mapped to. Factor analysis found that both outcome measures assess the same two health constructs: 'Pain' and 'Motor Function'. We developed two separate common scales for both subscales. Frequency density plots and Bland-Altman analysis suggested that these can be used to compare the scores of one instrument to the other. We present a look-up table allowing readers to map sum-scores from these outcome measures onto the common scales.

Ratio Level of Measurement
A set of data measured using the ratio scale takes care of the ratio problem and provides complete information. Ratio scale data are like interval scale data, except they have a zero point and ratios can be calculated....
z Scores and Unusual Values
This score indicates how far a value is from the mean in terms of standard deviation. For example, if a data value has a z score of +1, the researcher can infer that the particular data value is one standard deviation above the mean. If another data...

Testing a Claim about Standard Deviation
The hypothesis testing for the claim of population standard deviation (or variance) requires the data and samples to be random and unbiased. The population distribution also must be normal. There is no specific requirement on the sample size as the estimation is based on the chi-square distribution.
As a first step, the hypothesis (null and alternative) concerning the claim about...
