Obedience01:08

Obedience

32.5K
According to obedience research, we may harm others under the forceful pressures of an authority figure (Milgram, 1974). How about if the inappropriate orders were delivered with less force? The increasing interdependence between nurses and physicians compelled Hofling and his colleagues to explore nurses’ reactions to a potentially harmful medical request made by the perceived authority figure, the doctor (Hofling, Brotzman, Dalrymple, Graves, & Pierce, 1966). In this situation,...

Accountability in nursing is a fundamental principle that underscores the obligation of nurses to take responsibility for their actions and answer for any errors or omissions in patient care. This principle is grounded in the professional, legal, and ethical frameworks that shape nursing practice. For instance, nurses must adhere to all relevant laws, regulations, and practice standards, including guidelines set forth by nursing boards and professional bodies, to ensure their actions comply...

The Professional Nurse

3.9K
Professional nurses are not limited to bedside care and are taking roles of greater responsibility. A nurse should have a knowledge-based practice, including personal, theoretical, procedural, cultural, and reflexive knowledge. Additionally, nurses must be competent in cognitive, technical, interpersonal, and ethical/legal skills. Some of the best attributes of successful nurses include the following:
Communication skills: These are critical characteristics, especially speaking and listening.

Current Trends in Nursing II

1.2K
Trends in nursing are multifactorial and associated with changes in society, within the nursing profession, and in other professions. Notably, telehealth and remote nursing contribute to successful healthcare delivery for numerous patients and help reduce stress for nurses due to nursing shortages. Nurses can reach patients, monitor their conditions, and interact with them using computers, audio, visual accessories, and telephones—for example, remote patient monitoring systems. Likewise,...

Levels of Communication II: Organizational, Public, and Group Dynamics

1.7K
Effective communication is the foundation of a good organization. Communication is the lifeblood of an organization that connects the group with messages. In an organization, communication occurs in upward, downward, and horizontal lines. Downward communication travels from the administrative and senior levels to the staff through official channels such as manuals, rules and regulations, and organizational charts. Staff members initiate upward communication, which is addressed to executives and...

Nurses' Legal Responsibilities II

Establishing a secure, collaborative nurse-patient relationship is crucial for delivering high-quality care. This relationship, founded on trust, respect, and honesty, enhances the patient's comfort and willingness to share vital health information. For example, a nurse who listens actively and without judgment provides clear information about health conditions and treatment options and respects patient decisions, which builds a trusting relationship.
Communication between nurses and...

Area of Science:

  • Nursing
  • Healthcare Management
  • Organizational Psychology

Background:

  • Nurses' creativity is essential for healthcare organizations.
  • Factors influencing nurses' creativity include supervisor knowledge sharing and organizational absorptive capacity.
  • Understanding these factors is crucial for fostering innovation in healthcare.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To assess the impact of supervisor knowledge sharing behavior on nurses' creativity.
  • To evaluate the influence of organizational absorptive capacity on nurses' creativity.

Main Methods:

  • A cross-sectional, multicenter, descriptive, correlational, and exploratory research design was employed.
  • Data were collected from 700 nurses across five major hospitals in Alexandria, Egypt.
  • Three self-administered questionnaires were used, with data analyzed through descriptive and inferential statistics and structural equation modeling.

Main Results:

  • Nurses' creativity showed a significant positive association with supervisor knowledge sharing behavior (r=0.619, p<0.001).
  • Nurses' creativity was also positively linked to organizational absorptive capacity (r=0.545, p<0.001).
  • Supervisor knowledge sharing behavior explained 87% of the variance in nurses' creativity, while organizational absorptive capacity explained 55%.

Conclusions:

  • Supervisor knowledge sharing and organizational absorptive capacity are powerful stimulants for enhancing nurses' creativity.
  • Hospital leaders should promote knowledge sharing through reward and incentive systems.
  • Fostering these behaviors can lead to mutual benefit and organizational development in healthcare settings.
