    Background:

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate sex-based differences in fetal lung maturity using amniotic fluid surfactant profiles.
    • To determine if fetal sex influences the development of key lung surfactant components.

    • Analysis of amniotic fluid from 164 normal pregnancies (≥30 weeks' gestation).
    • Evaluation of four lung profile indexes: lecithin/sphingomyelin (L/S) ratio, disaturated lecithin, phosphatidylglycerol, and phosphatidylinositol.

    • Sex-specific differences in fetal lung development contribute to the observed sex disparity in RDS incidence.
