Abstract:
We report on an unconventional and highly active iron catalyst embedded within molten barium amide (Ba(NH2)2) for NH3 decomposition. A ternary barium iron amide (Ba-NH-Fe) species plays a crucial role in NH3 decomposition catalysis. The synergy among multiple Fe atoms, Ba atoms, and the NH2 moiety is responsible for its high catalytic activity under low temperatures.

Amides to Carboxylic Acids: Hydrolysis
Acid-catalyzed hydrolysis:
Hydrolysis of amides under acidic conditions yields carboxylic acids. Since the reaction occurs slowly, hydrolysis requires the conditions of heat.
The mechanism begins with the protonation of the carbonyl oxygen by the acid catalyst. The protonation makes the amide carbonyl carbon more...
