Abstract:
Pulmonary Mucoepidermoid Carcinoma (PMEC) is a rare, slow-growing, low-grade primary intrathoracic cancer of the tracheobronchial tree that manifests as an exophytic endobronchial tumour with luminal obstruction. Radical surgery is the cornerstone of treatment for low-grade PMEC. We report a case of a 23-year-old woman who presented with intermittent haemoptysis. On imaging, an endoluminal mass was seen in the bronchus intermedius, also visualised on bronchoscopy, although biopsies were inconclusive. Final histology after surgical resection revealed a low-grade PMEC with tumour-free margins. The postoperative course was uncomplicated, and no recurrence was evident after 6 months. Lung-preserving sleeve resection for low-grade PMECs with clear margins is a safe and feasible surgery, offering favourable short-term outcomes. Ongoing surveillance will be necessary for longer-term results.
