Hybridoma technology is used for the large-scale production of monoclonal antibodies. Monoclonal antibodies bind to only a single antigenic determinant or epitope. Such antibodies are used in research, diagnostics, and disease therapy. The hybridoma technology established in 1975 by Georges Köhler and Cesar Milstein was awarded the Nobel Prize in Medicine in 1984 for revolutionizing research and therapy.

  • The condition progressed to encompass features of polyneuropathy, organomegaly, endocrine dysfunction, monoclonal plasma cell proliferation, and skin changes syndrome (POEMS syndrome).

Findings:

  • A definitive diagnosis of plasma cell myeloma was confirmed via biopsy.
  • The patient experienced a protracted diagnostic and therapeutic journey over 3.5 years of follow-up.

Implications:

  • This case highlights the diagnostic challenges of plasma cell myeloma due to overlapping early symptoms with other neuropathies.
  • Prompt diagnosis and integrated treatment strategies are crucial for improving patient outcomes and functional independence.
