What every dentist needs to know about electric scooters
Abstract:
Somatic and craniofacial injuries from the use of electric scooters (e-scooters) have become a serious public health concern, affecting both riders and pedestrians. Accidents involving e-scooters pose a risk for bone fracutres and significant injuries to the soft tissues and brain, and severe injuries may result in death. Oral healthcare providers should particularly be aware of the potential for injuries to the oral hard and soft tissues. Dentists have the opportunity to educate their patients on preventive measures to mitigate e-scooter injuries and to advocate the use of protective equipment, including a helmet, mouthguard, and elbow and knee pads.
