Abstract:
Zymography is a method used to detect proteolytic activity in biological samples. There are different ways to perform this technique according to the aim and the samples in the study. In situ zymography is a type of enzymatic analysis that can be applied to histological slides and small tissue samples to identify and localize metalloprotease activity. This methodology can be applied in studies to investigate changes in proteases activity and help to elucidate the pathogenesis of diseases and response to treatment in medical and dental research. In this chapter, the steps to perform in situ zymography in histological slides and mineralized tissue sections are described.
