    Background:

    • Limited understanding of Campylobacter infections epidemiology and pathogenesis.
    • Campylobacter fetus ssp fetus specifically shows a propensity to infect vascular endothelium.

    Observation:

    • A 56-year-old woman presented with a Campylobacter fetus ssp fetus infection of an aortic aneurysm.
    • The organism was successfully cultured from stool and surgical tissue samples.

    Findings:

    • The bacterium exhibited characteristic morphology, microaerophilic growth, temperature tolerance (22°C and 37°C, not 42°C), and positive catalase/oxidase tests.
    • Identified as resistant to nalidixic acid and susceptible to cephalothin.

    Implications:

    • Successful one-stage surgical repair and erythromycin therapy led to patient recovery.
    • This case expands knowledge on Campylobacter fetus ssp fetus vascular infections and treatment outcomes.
    • Highlights the importance of considering Campylobacter in vascular infections, even rare presentations.
