Case:
A 31-year-old Brazilian man with a multioperated right medial malleolus defect underwent anatomical ankle reconstruction with an iliac autograft. The bone graft was designed using computer-aided technology, based on the healthy side. Bone graft machining was performed using a Computerized Numerical Control (CNC) multitasking machine in a sterilized environment. Two years postoperatively, the patient had mild ankle discomfort but little difficulty performing daily activities. Computed tomography confirmed graft union, and arthroscopy revealed cartilage-like tissue on the articular surface of the reconstructed medial malleolus.
Conclusion:
Precise bone machining using a CNC multitasking machine may enhance the accuracy of anatomical joint reconstructions.
