Abstract:
A young child presented with redness and blurred vision in his right eye following a history of blunt trauma with a ball. On examination, he was found to have an isolated posterior capsule rupture (PCR) with cataract formation. A phacoaspiration surgery was performed, and a foldable three-piece intraocular lens (IOL) was implanted in the sulcus with posterior optic capture. The child was reviewed periodically up to 6 months postoperatively and had a vision of 20/25 with a well-centred IOL. Isolated PCR due to blunt trauma is a rare finding. Several factors determine the management of these cases, especially in children. Our case highlights the evaluation and surgical management of a patient in the amblyogenic age group to achieve the best possible visual outcome.
