Introduction:
Ectopic kidneys (EKs) are a rare congenital anomaly, occurring in approximately 1 in 900 individuals, where the kidney fails to ascend to its typical lumbar position. Although often asymptomatic, EKs are more susceptible to pathological conditions such as obstruction, infection, and stone formation due to their abnormal positioning.
Case Presentation:
We present three instructive cases of pathological ectopic kidneys, each demonstrating unique clinical challenges and management strategies: DISCUSSION: These cases underscore the value of advanced imaging for diagnosis and functional assessment, and demonstrate that individualized, minimally invasive surgical approaches can yield excellent outcomes despite anatomical complexities.
Conclusion:
Understanding the diverse presentations and management strategies of pathological ectopic kidneys enhances clinical decision-making, underscoring the need for tailored approaches in this rare entity.

External Anatomy of the Kidney
The kidneys are located in the retroperitoneal space on either side of the vertebral column, protected posteriorly by the 11th and 12th ribs. The right kidney sits slightly lower than the left owing to the presence of the liver...
Renal Corpuscle
Glomerulus: Structure and Function
The glomerulus is a tiny, intricate network of capillaries located at the beginning of the nephron. It's enveloped by the Bowman's capsule and receives its blood supply from an afferent arteriole, which divides into numerous...
Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum
The ER provides optimal conditions for synthesizing steroid hormones and lipids, such as phospholipids and triglycerides. Traditionally, lipid metabolism was considered to be a smooth ER function. However, there is no direct evidence to prove that rough ER is completely excluded from lipid...
Renal Tubule and Collecting Duct
Proximal Convoluted Tubule (PCT):
The PCT is the initial segment of the renal tubule, extending from the Bowman's capsule that encloses the glomerulus. Its convoluted structure and microvilli-lined cells increase the surface area for reabsorption. The PCT reabsorbs glucose, amino acids, sodium, and water from the filtrate, ensuring essential...
