Summary

High CD155 and programmed cell death-ligand 1 (PD-L1) expression did not predict poor prognosis in stage II-III lung adenocarcinoma. Further research is needed for stage I lung cancer patients.

Background:

  • CD155 acts as a ligand for T-cell immunoreceptor with Ig and ITIM domains.
  • Investigated the link between CD155 and programmed cell death-ligand 1 (PD-L1) expression and clinical outcomes in lung adenocarcinoma patients.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To examine the prognostic significance of CD155 and PD-L1 expression in surgically resected lung adenocarcinoma.
  • To determine if CD155/PD-L1 co-expression impacts patient outcomes.

Main Methods:

  • Analyzed 426 patients with pathological stage I-III lung adenocarcinoma.
  • Assessed CD155 and PD-L1 expression via immunohistochemistry.
  • Investigated the prognostic value of CD155 expression and CD155/PD-L1 co-expression.

Main Results:

  • High CD155 expression was found in 26.3% of patients; CD155/PD-L1 co-expression in 10.3%.
  • Both high CD155 and co-expression were linked to poorer prognosis in overall pStage I-III lung adenocarcinoma.
  • However, multivariate analysis indicated neither was an independent poor prognostic factor in pStage II-III lung adenocarcinoma.

Conclusions:

  • CD155 expression or CD155/PD-L1 co-expression are not associated with poor prognosis in pStage II-III lung adenocarcinoma.
  • The prognostic significance may differ between pStage I and pStage II-III lung adenocarcinoma.
