Summary

  • Analysis of 532,042 donations from 189,329 donors in Québec, Canada.

  • No significant association was found between low or high pre-donation BP and the odds of VVR.

  • The VVR rate remained stable at approximately 3.0-3.1% in both periods.

  • Pre-donation blood pressure levels are not associated with vasovagal reactions.
  • Withdrawing BP deferral criteria did not lead to an increase in VVR incidence.
  • The findings provide strong evidence to support the discontinuation of BP deferrals in blood donation practices.
