Anatomical exploration of the PC8 acupoint through cadaveric Study: Implications for median and ulnar nerve

Background And Objectives:
This study aimed to elucidate the neuroanatomical characteristics of the PC8 (Laogong) acupoint to enhance understanding of its therapeutic mechanisms.
Materials And Methods:
A detailed anatomical dissection of two cadavers conducted at the Chungnam National University College of Medicine examined the spatial relationship of the PC8 acupoint with the surrounding neural structures, muscles, and tendons in the palm.
Results:
The palmar digital nerve, a branch of the median nerve, was located in the superficial layer of the PC8 acupoint. The deep branch of the ulnar nerve innervating the adductor pollicis is identified in the deep layer of the palm.
Conclusion:
This study identified the neuroanatomical features of the PC8 acupoint, explaining how acupuncture at PC8 can lead to simultaneous activation of the median and ulnar nerves. These findings provide a robust anatomical basis for clinical applications, particularly for conditions involving neuromodulation.
