A Review of the Literature on Cow Milk Protein Allergy Management
Abstract:
Cow milk allergy (CMA) is an immune-mediated condition affecting infants and young children, leading to a range of gastrointestinal, respiratory, and skin-related symptoms. This review explores the epidemiology, etiology and pathogenesis, clinical manifestations, diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis of CMA. CMA's prevalence varies geographically and is influenced by genetic and environmental factors. In this article, we review how to accurately diagnose CMA to avoid unnecessary dietary restrictions, as well as provide an overview of treatment options that highlight the importance of tailored dietary management and the potential for developing tolerance in affected children. Antibody Structure
Antibodies, also known as immunoglobulins (Ig), are essential players of the adaptive immune system. These antigen-binding proteins are produced by B cells and make up 20 percent of the total blood plasma by weight. In mammals, antibodies fall into five different classes, which each elicits a different biological response upon antigen binding.
