Reproducibility Made Easy (REMY) is a new software tool that helps researchers standardize reporting for magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) studies. REMY simplifies data import and generates reports, improving the clinical applicability of MRS research.
Area of Science:
- Neuroimaging
- Medical Physics
- Biomedical Engineering
Background:
- Magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) studies suffer from poor reproducibility, hindering clinical application due to a lack of standardized reporting.
- Existing minimum reporting standards (MRSinMRS) face slow implementation due to diverse vendor nomenclature, data formats, and lack of software tools.
- Challenges in data formatting and parameter identification impede the adoption of standardized reporting in MRS research.
Purpose of the Study:
- To develop a user-friendly software tool, REproducibility Made Easy (REMY), to address the challenges in standardizing MRS reporting.
- To facilitate the generation of comprehensive MRS study documentation adhering to MRSinMRS guidelines.
- To improve the reproducibility and clinical applicability of magnetic resonance spectroscopy research.
Main Methods:
- Developed REMY, a standalone toolbox supporting diverse MRS data formats from GE, Siemens, Philips, and Bruker, as well as MRS-NIfTI.
- Integrated external libraries (spec2nii, pymapVBVD) for accurate data parsing and header information extraction.
- Implemented a user-friendly interface for data import, vendor/format selection, and one-click generation of MRSinMRS tables, log files, and method documents (LaTeX/PDF).
Main Results:
- REMY successfully populated key MRSinMRS table fields, including hardware parameters (field strength, manufacturer, software version) and acquisition parameters (pulse sequence, voxel size, TR, TE, etc.).
- The software accurately processed data from multiple vendors and formats, translating complex information into a standardized structure.
- Limitations include the inability to input RF coil and additional hardware information due to their absence in the source files.
Conclusions:
- REMY effectively overcomes technical barriers in MRS data reporting, enabling easier adoption of MRSinMRS standards.
- The tool's accessibility to users without coding expertise promotes wider implementation of reproducible MRS research practices.
- REMY significantly contributes to generating standardized methodological documentation, enhancing the reliability and clinical utility of MRS studies.
