    Area of Science:

    • Obstetrics and Gynecology
    • Perinatology

    Background:

    • Ball pelvimetry was used to assess fetomaternal relationships in breech presentations.
    • This technique measured fetal head volume and maternal pelvic capacity.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To evaluate the efficacy of ball pelvimetry in predicting vaginal delivery success for breech presentation.
    • To assess neonatal outcomes in a selected group of term pregnancies with breech presentation.

    Main Methods:

    • A retrospective analysis of 107 term pregnancies with breech presentation between 1979 and 1981.
    • Patients were evaluated using ball pelvimetry to establish fetomaternal relationships.

    Main Results:

    • Inadequate pelvimetry or fetal head hyperextension occurred in 20% of patients.
    • Of 86 patients allowed to labor, 59% achieved vaginal delivery.
    • The overall cesarean section rate was 52%.

    Conclusions:

    • Vaginal delivery in this highly selected patient population with breech presentation did not increase neonatal morbidity.
    • No neonatal deaths were observed in the study group.
