Background:

  • Fatigue is a common, debilitating symptom in immune-mediated inflammatory diseases (IMIDs) and neurodegenerative diseases (NDDs).
  • Traditional patient-reported outcomes (PROs) often use long recall periods, missing short-term fatigue variations.
  • Electronic diaries (eDiaries) offer potential for real-time, granular fatigue data collection.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To assess the feasibility and acceptability of high-frequency eDiaries for capturing intraday fatigue variability.
  • To compare eDiary fatigue data with established weekly PROs, specifically the Functional Assessment of Chronic Illness Therapy-Fatigue (FACIT-F).

Main Methods:

  • A 4-week prospective observational study (IDEA-FAST) involving 159 participants with NDDs, IMIDs, and healthy volunteers.
  • Participants used eDiaries up to four times daily to report fatigue levels on a 7-point Likert scale.
