Maxillary reconstruction using subperiosteal dental implants: A clinical report

Subperiosteal implants were first described in the literature in the 1940s. A new generation of subperiosteal implants that utilize digital and CAD-CAM technology to fit the implant precisely to the patient's bone anatomy are becoming more commonplace. This treatment modality can be very useful for patients who suffer from atrophic edentulous ridges where bone augmentation is not possible. This clinical report documents a clinical case where a subperiosteal titanium framework was inserted and restored with a maxillary implant-assisted complete denture in a patient who received a hemi-maxillectomy due to an ameloblastoma.
