Summary

Fasting or a high-fat diet (HFD) did not negatively impact bone-implant connections in rat tibias. This research indicates no adverse effects on osseointegration from these dietary interventions.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the effect of fasting and HFD on bone-implant osseointegration.
  • To assess the biomechanical stability of bone-implant connections under different dietary conditions.

Main Methods:

  • 28 female Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into four groups: control, fasted, HFD, and fasted+HFD.
  • Titanium implants were placed in the tibias of rats for 12 weeks.
  • Biomechanical analysis was performed to evaluate bone-implant osseointegration.

Main Results:

  • No statistically significant difference in bone-implant osseointegration was observed between the control group and the HFD or fasted groups (P > 0.05).
  • The study found no adverse effects on the bone-implant connection due to fasting or HFD.
