Impact Statement:
Childhood obesity is a major healthcare challenge, with those from lower socio-economic status facing a disproportionate burden. This commentary highlights the current knowledge gap in understanding the drivers of this association. It highlights the need for more inclusive research studies to be undertaken into the topic, and the need to leverage routinely collected clinical data to help tackle the obesity epidemic.
