  • 249 refugees in transit along the Balkan route completed the PTGI, Refugee Health Screener-15, and WHO-Five Well-Being Index.
  • Exploratory factor analysis and hierarchical linear regression were used to analyze PTG and its relationship with well-being and psychological vulnerability.

  • A moderate to high prevalence of PTG was observed among refugees in transit.
  • Factor analysis identified three key PTG domains: self-perception, interpersonal relationships, and philosophy of life.
  • Changes in interpersonal relationships and philosophy of life significantly predicted psychological well-being, independent of psychological difficulties.

Conclusions:

  • Posttraumatic growth (PTG) is achievable even in highly stressful and uncertain transit environments.
  • These findings underscore the importance of tailored mental health interventions to support refugee well-being and recovery.
