Medial Femoral Trochlea Flap Reconstruction for Steroid-Induced Preiser Disease: A Case Report

Case:
A 23-year-old woman, with a history of systemic lupus erythematosus that was treated with steroid pulse therapy since the age of 16 years, visited our clinic for right wrist pain. Imaging showed collapse of the proximal pole of the scaphoid with fragmentation. She underwent medial femoral trochlea osteochondral flap reconstruction, with successful achievement of solid bone union at 3 months postoperatively. The range of motion improved to 80° flexion and 70° extension, with a Mayo Wrist Score of 95 points at 2 years postoperatively.
Conclusions:
Medial femoral trochlea osteochondral flap reconstruction might be a good option in such severe cases.
