    Regional differences in rabbit sinus node membrane properties were investigated. Peripheral sinus node tissue exhibits faster electrical activity and recovery, while central tissue shows slower activity and greater depression, explaining pacemaker shifts.

    Background:

    • The sinus node initiates the heart's electrical impulse.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate regional variations in membrane properties and electrical activity within the rabbit sinus node.
    • To correlate these regional differences with pacemaker behavior.

    Main Methods:

    • Excised rabbit sinus node tissue specimens (approx. 0.3 mm diameter) from central, transitional, and peripheral regions were studied.
    • Electrical activity, action potential characteristics, and responses to stimulation, K+ concentration, and acetylcholine were measured.
