Abstract:
Thoracic endovascular aneurysm repair (TEVAR) has become the treatment of choice for acute type B dissections, complex thoracic aneurysm repair, and acute traumatic injuries of the thoracic aorta. General anesthesia is the most popular anesthetic technique for TEVAR. Evoked potential monitoring is used to test the integrity of spinal cord pathways. Spinal cord ischemia is a devastating complication that can result in transient or permanent paraplegia after TEVAR. Strategies to prevent SCI include increasing mean arterial pressure and cerebrospinal fluid drainage to optimize spinal cord perfusion pressure.Endoleaks are relatively common complications following TEVAR that require surveillance and intervention on occasion.
