This study reveals a novel mechanism for transporting surface-exposed lipoproteins (SLPs) in Gram-negative bacteria using the LptDE complex, similar to lipopolysaccharide (LPS) transport. This finding suggests a functional overlap between the Lpt and Lol pathways in bacterial outer membrane protein sorting.
