A water-lean interface was engineered on a zinc anode by introducing a trace of 2-acetamidothiazole (AZ) into a 0.5 M Zn(OTf)2 electrolyte. The coordinated chemical adsorption induced by the AZ molecules was found to inhibit hydrogen precipitation, facilitate homogeneous zinc deposition, and effectively suppress dendrite growth, thus resulting in exceptional stability of the Zn anode.
