ImmuBalance (IMB), a pre- and probiotic, shows promise in treating chronic endometritis (CE) when antibiotics fail. It significantly reduced CD138 counts in patients, suggesting a new therapeutic option for CE and repeated implantation failure (RIF).
Area of Science:
- Reproductive Medicine
- Microbiome Research
- Gynecological Pathology
Background:
- Chronic endometritis (CE) is a significant factor in repeated implantation failure (RIF).
- Standard antibiotic treatments for CE do not always lead to resolution.
- Alternative therapies are needed for persistent CE cases.
Purpose of the Study:
- To investigate the efficacy of ImmuBalance (IMB), a pre- and probiotic combination, as an alternative treatment for chronic endometritis (CE).
- To evaluate IMB's effectiveness in patients with CE unresponsive to conventional antibiotic therapy.
Main Methods:
- A retrospective study analyzed 819 women with CE between April 2021 and August 2022.
- Patients received initial treatment with doxycycline or IMB.
- Subsequent treatments included different antibiotic regimens or IMB for non-responsive cases, with CD138+ plasma cell counts assessed.
Main Results:
- ImmuBalance (IMB) treatment resulted in significant reduction of CD138+ plasma cells in Groups 2 and 3 (p<0.01 and p=0.04, respectively).
- CE resolution was achieved in 100% of patients treated with IMB in Groups 2 and 3 (15/15 and 4/4).
- Initial IMB use in Group 1 showed a 60% resolution rate, though not statistically significant (p=0.13).
Conclusions:
- ImmuBalance (IMB) demonstrates potential as an effective treatment for chronic endometritis (CE).
- IMB may be particularly beneficial for patients who have not responded to antibiotic treatments.
- This study suggests IMB as a viable option for managing CE, potentially improving outcomes in RIF.
