    Background:

    • Colorectal cancer (CRC) has a known genetic component, particularly in familial cases.
    • Osteomas, benign bone tumors, have been observed in genetic syndromes associated with CRC, such as familial polyposis coli.
    • The prevalence of osteomas in sporadic CRC patients is not well-established.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the occurrence of mandibular osteomas in patients with colorectal cancer without a known familial disposition.
    • To explore the potential link between mandibular osteomas and genetic factors in colorectal cancer development.

    Main Methods:

    • Orthopantomography (dental X-ray) was used to examine the mandibles of 50 patients diagnosed with colorectal cancer.
    • Patients included had no known family history of cancer.
    • A control group was used for comparison.

    Main Results:

    • Mandibular osteomas were detected in 12 out of 50 patients (24%).
    • This prevalence is significantly higher compared to the control group (5%, P < 0.001).
