The Effect of Alcohol-Based Virucidal Hand Sanitizers on Skin Barrier Function-A Randomised Experimental Study

Alcohol-based hand sanitizers (ABHRs) can cause skin irritation. This study found that while all tested hand sanitizers altered skin hydration and barrier function, some formulations showed better tolerance than pure alcohol, with phosphoric acid potentially aiding efficacy without increasing irritation.
