Dementia case managers found the new electronic Dementia Case Management Information System (DCMIS) highly acceptable and useful. System quality and job relevance were key factors influencing their positive experience and intention to use the DCMIS.
Area of Science:
- Gerontology
- Health Informatics
- Information Systems
Background:
- Dementia care management requires efficient information systems.
- Electronic systems offer potential benefits for case managers.
- User acceptance is crucial for the successful implementation of new technologies.
Purpose of the Study:
- To evaluate the acceptability of a new electronic Dementia Case Management Information System (DCMIS).
- To assess dementia case managers' hands-on experience with the DCMIS.
- To identify predictors of DCMIS acceptance among users.
Main Methods:
- Thirty dementia case managers participated after training.
- Participants used the DCMIS in simulated patient assessment scenarios.
- Technology acceptance was measured using a 25-item questionnaire and analyzed via multiple linear regression.
Main Results:
- High acceptance (mean score 4.05) and perceived usefulness (mean score 4.15) of the DCMIS were reported.
- Job relevance significantly predicted perceived usefulness.
- System and information quality predicted perceived ease of use, and job relevance predicted behavioral intention to use.
Conclusions:
- Dementia case managers found the DCMIS to be a useful tool.
- Ease of accessing quality information and improved job performance were key drivers of acceptance.
- The findings suggest the DCMIS has the potential to enhance workflow for dementia case managers.
