A novel electrochemical sensor using phenyl diazonium salts and reduced graphene oxide enhances paracetamol detection in pharmaceuticals. This sensitive and selective sensor offers a reliable alternative for drug analysis.
Area of Science:
- Electrochemistry
- Materials Science
- Analytical Chemistry
Background:
- Developing sensitive electrochemical sensors for drug analysis is crucial but challenging.
- Functionalized electrodes are key for enhancing detection capabilities.
Purpose of the Study:
- To develop a highly sensitive and efficient electrochemical sensor for paracetamol (PAR) detection.
- To utilize a modified glassy carbon electrode (GCE) with phenyl diazonium salts (ph) and electrochemically reduced graphene oxide (ERGO).
Main Methods:
- Fabrication of the GCE/ph/ERGO sensor.
- Characterization using SEM, EIS, and CV.
- Detection of paracetamol using square wave voltammetry (SWV).
Main Results:
- The GCE/ph/ERGO sensor showed significantly enhanced conductivity and a higher anodic current peak for PAR compared to bare GCE.
- Achieved a low detection limit of 18.2 nM and a quantification limit of 60.6 nM.
- Demonstrated excellent selectivity, accuracy, and stability, comparable to HPLC.
Conclusions:
- The developed GCE/ph/ERGO sensor is reliable, stable, and robust for routine paracetamol analysis in pharmaceutical samples.
- This sensor offers a promising alternative for precise drug quantification.
