MicroRNA Is Downregulated in Invasive Non-Functioning Pituitary Adenomas

This study investigated serum microRNAs as potential biomarkers for non-functioning pituitary adenomas (NFPAs) and prolactinomas. Researchers found that while total microRNA levels were lower in NFPAs, specific microRNAs are not effective non-invasive biomarkers for these pituitary tumors.

- Despite a significant difference in total microRNA levels, the investigated specific miRNAs (hsa-miR-16-5p, hsa-miR-143-3p, hsa-miR-423-5p) are not suitable as non-invasive biomarkers for invasive NFPAs and prolactinomas.
- Further research may be needed to identify more specific and reliable miRNA biomarkers for pituitary adenomas.
