Abstract:
Solid-state dielectric materials have been widely investigated as potential candidates in compact pulsed power systems. In this paper, (Ba,Sr)TiO3 (BST) ceramic, with high relative permittivity and high voltage tolerance, was employed as the pulse modulation dielectric of the pulse forming line (PFL). Specifically, the electrode structure of the BST ceramic-based PFL was designed in Ω-shape, which can efficiently improve the voltage strength of the PFL and increase the output pulse duration. Pulse transmission and modulation performance of the PFL were analyzed numerically. Based on that, the PFL was developed and experimentally studied in our laboratory. With a charging voltage of 24 kV, square-shaped pulses with a peak voltage of 12 kV, and a duration of 141 ns, approximately, were obtained on a matched load of 3 Ω. Dimension of the BST ceramic-based PFL is 174 × 84 × 10 mm3. The energy density of the PFL can successfully reach 11.7 J/L, which meets potential applications including compact and solid-state pulsed power systems.
