Cytomegalovirus infection in non-Hodgkin lymphoma: A case series

Abstract:
Cytomegalovirus, a common infection in immunocompromised hosts, can cause clinical manifestations ranging from asymptomatic or mild infection to severe end-organ involvement. Cytomegalovirus infection in hematologic malignancies is often reported in patients receiving allogeneic stem-cell transplant and less commonly in nontransplant settings. Disease-related impaired host immunity and drug-induced immunosuppression are important risk factors. We describe three cases of cytomegalovirus end-organ disease - one case of life-threatening encephalitis, possibly due to cytomegalovirus, and two cases of treated cytomegalovirus retinitis.
