    Area of Science:

    • Cardiology
    • Cardiac Surgery

    Background:

    • Fibrous constrictive endocarditis is an anatomo-clinical entity.
    • The etiology of this condition remains unclear.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To evaluate the efficacy of surgical intervention for fibrous constrictive endocarditis.
    • To present surgical treatment as a potential option for this cardiac condition.

    Main Methods:

    • Surgical procedure involving internal stripping of one or both ventricles.
    • Removal of the mitral and/or tricuspid valves.
    • Procedure first performed in 1971, with seven cases reported.

    Main Results:

    • Initial results were encouraging.
    • Subsequent cases demonstrated progressively good outcomes.

    Related Experiment Videos

  • Endocardial resection proved effective in managing the condition.
  • Conclusions:

    • Surgical endocardial resection is a viable treatment for fibrous constrictive endocarditis.
    • The procedure has shown encouraging and good results in multiple cases.
    • Further investigation into the etiology of this condition is warranted.
