Although the first MHPE programme was established over half a century ago, their number around the world has risen sharply in the last decade. MHPEs typically cater for learners with professional backgrounds in clinical and biomedical science, who can struggle with the transition to the social science frameworks of education. We chose poetry to capture the complex personal and professional tensions and contradictions that can colour this transition and wrote these verses as and when they came to us.
