Background:

The Mind Over Matter (MOM) program is a proven behavioral intervention for improving continence in women aged 50 and older.
The COVID-19 pandemic necessitated a shift from in-person to virtual program delivery, raising questions about its effectiveness and reach.

Purpose of the Study:

To compare the characteristics of participants reached by virtual versus in-person MOM program implementation.
To evaluate and compare symptom improvement and program satisfaction between virtual and in-person participants.

Main Methods:

A retrospective analysis of pretest and posttest evaluation surveys was conducted.
Data from 708 participants (in-person and virtual) between April 2019 and December 2021 were analyzed.

Main Results:

Virtual participants were younger and more likely to live alone, possess higher education, and have assistance at home compared to in-person participants.
Both virtual and in-person implementations led to improvements in urinary incontinence, with virtual participants showing significant improvement in fecal incontinence.
Overall program satisfaction was high, though virtual participants reported slightly lower complete satisfaction rates.

Conclusions:

Virtual implementation of the MOM program is effective in improving continence symptoms and achieving high program satisfaction, comparable to in-person delivery.
Neither implementation format effectively reached participants without some college education or those not identifying as non-Hispanic White, indicating disparities in access.
