Comorbid insomnia and sleep apnea (COMISA) causes unique overnight autonomic nervous system (ANS) dysfunction, with less parasympathetic activity during wakefulness and more sympathetic activity during sleep. This differs from isolated insomnia or obstructive sleep apnea (OSA).
