Osteochondral Lesion of the Subtalar Joint: A Case Report

Case:
A 22-year-old female college basketball player complained of prolonged hindfoot symptoms following an ankle sprain. An osteochondral lesion (OCL) of the subtalar joint was suspected. Ankle and subtalar arthroscopies were performed 5 months later. OCLs exposed to the subchondral bone were found on the surfaces of the talus and calcaneus, with a subtle OCL in the ankle. Bone marrow stimulation (BMS) was performed, a patellar tendon-bearing brace was applied, and weight-bearing was allowed 6 weeks postoperatively. The patient returned to basketball 10 months postoperatively.
Conclusion:
Arthroscopic debridement and BMS were favorable for an OCL of the subtalar joint.
