Common cancers among the aging population: What NPs need to know
Abstract:
The incidence rates for cancer increase from fewer than 25 cases per 100,000 people among those younger than age 20 years to about 350 per 100,000 among those ages 45 to 49 years and to more than 1,000 per 100,000 among those age 60 years and older. This article explores current screening guidelines for the most common cancers in the US among older adults - breast, lung and bronchus, colorectal, and prostate, with a focus on older adults. Other oncologic-focused special considerations for older adults are also addressed.
