Abstract:
Percutaneous balloon mitral valvuloplasty (PBMV) is an option for rheumatic mitral stenosis when no significant regurgitation is present and the anatomy appropriate (low Wilkins score). Most procedures use fluoroscopic or transthoracic echocardiography guidance but use of 3D guiding with transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) can have several advantages. We present a case of mitral rheumatic stenosis treated with PBMV with Inoue balloon using the novel 3D mini TEE probe. The procedure was performed under conscious sedation and it illustrates the step by step of PBMV with 3D TEE guidance. 3D TEE guidance with mini TEE enhances PBMV safety and precision while maintaining a minimalistic approach.
