    Summary

    Human embryo cells infected with simian virus 40 (SV40) showed no change in interferon's antiviral effect but a significant decrease in its cell-growth inhibition. These changes persisted after SV40 infection.

    Background:

    • Interferon is a crucial antiviral cytokine.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the impact of SV40 infection on human embryo cells (HEC) sensitivity to interferon.
    • To determine if SV40 infection alters interferon's antiviral and cell-growth inhibitory effects.

    • Human embryo cells (HEC) were infected with simian virus 40 (SV40).
    • Cells were passaged serially up to 17 days post-infection.
