Cancer Survival Analysis01:21

Cancer Survival Analysis

Cancer survival analysis focuses on quantifying and interpreting the time from a key starting point, such as diagnosis or the initiation of treatment, to a specific endpoint, such as remission or death. This analysis provides critical insights into treatment effectiveness and factors that influence patient outcomes, helping to shape clinical decisions and guide prognostic evaluations. A cornerstone of oncology research, survival analysis tackles the challenges of skewed, non-normally...

Area of Science:

  • Oncology
  • Clinical Research
  • Cancer Prognostics

Background:

  • Multidisciplinary team (MDT) discussions are a cornerstone of cancer care.
  • The specific impact of MDT interventions on advanced breast cancer (ABC) patient prognosis remains underexplored.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the effect of MDT intervention on the survival outcomes of patients with advanced breast cancer (ABC).

Main Methods:

  • Retrospective analysis of 707 ABC patients diagnosed between 2018-2021, divided into MDT and non-MDT groups.
  • Kaplan-Meier analysis for progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS).
  • Multivariate Cox regression, subgroup analysis, and propensity score matching (PSM) were employed for robust analysis.

Main Results:

  • MDT intervention was associated with significantly improved median PFS (12.00 vs. 8.00 months) and median OS (55.67 vs. 40.07 months).
  • Subgroup analyses revealed benefits for specific patient demographics and disease characteristics, including younger patients and those with de novo metastatic disease.
  • After PSM, MDT significantly controlled disease progression (HR 0.74) but did not significantly impact OS.

Conclusions:

  • MDT discussions are effective in controlling disease progression in advanced breast cancer.
  • MDT intervention demonstrates a positive impact on overall survival in select patient subgroups, highlighting its value in personalized cancer care.
