Ethnopharmacological Relevance:
The Tricholoma (Fr.) Staude, belonging to the Tricholomataceae family, includes numerous species distributed widely across temperate regions, including Asia, Europe, and North America. The widely known species include T. matsutake (S. Ito&S. Imai) Singer, T. mongolicum Imai, and T. flavovirens Lundell, which are large, rare, and globally renowned medicinal mushrooms. In Eastern countries, Tricholoma fungi has been consumed as a vegetable for thousands of years and is also utilized in traditional Chinese medicine for its health benefits, including disease prevention and treatment. Polysaccharides, one of the key bioactive components of Tricholoma fungi, have attracted significant research interest due to their antioxidant, immunomodulatory, and antitumor activities.
Aim Of The Review:
This review presents a comprehensive overview of recent research on the extraction, purification, structural characterization, pharmacological activities, and applications of polysaccharides from Tricholoma fungi (TPs). It aims to provide valuable insights and up-to-date information to support the further development and application of TPs in pharmaceuticals and functional foods.
Materials And Methods:
Relevant research data were collected by searching the terms "Tricholoma polysaccharides" and "Tricholoma" in databases such as China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), PubMed, Google Scholar, Web of Science, and Baidu Scholar.
Results:
The main extraction methods for TPs include water extraction, ultrasound-assisted extraction, enzyme-assisted extraction, and microwave-assisted extraction. The chemical structure of TPs can vary considerably depending on the extraction, isolation, and purification methods used. TPs exhibit a wide range of biological activities, such as antioxidant, immunomodulatory, antitumor, radioprotective, melanin production inhibition, hypoglycemic, anti-fatigue, anti-aging, and anti-inflammatory effects.
Conclusions:
This review provides a comprehensive analysis of the extraction processes, separation and purification methods, structural characteristics, pharmacological activities, mechanisms of action, and applications of TPs, both domestically and internationally. The genus Tricholoma encompasses a variety of edible fungi with notable medicinal value. Polysaccharides, as one of the primary bioactive components of Tricholoma, exhibit significant pharmacological activities, health benefits, and considerable potential for application. However, further researches are required to fully elucidate their molecular mechanisms, structural details, and structure-activity relationships. This paper lays the groundwork for the further development and application of Tricholoma fungi in the fields of medicine and functional foods.
